About the workshop
Coiled Studio is a one-person workshop.
I work in two materials that most people keep apart. Leather is patient and forgiving — it stretches, it takes dye, it forgives a slightly crooked line if the stitching underneath is sound. Steel is the opposite: it tells you immediately when you have got it wrong, and it does not let you take the blow back.
Working in both keeps me honest. A knife with a badly fitted sheath is only half a thing, and a bag with cheap hardware will fail at the hardware first. So I make the whole object rather than part of it.
Everything is made one at a time, by hand, in a small workshop. There is no production run and no second location. If you own a piece from here, it was cut, stitched or forged by the same pair of hands.
How I work
One at a time
No batches, no outsourcing. Each piece is finished before the next is started.
Made to be used
These are tools and goods, not ornaments. They are built to be carried, worn and sharpened.
Honest materials
Full-grain leather and good steel, chosen because of how they age rather than how they photograph.
